Ray Wilkins faults manner Man United sacked Van Gaal

The former Manchester United midfielder think United should have shown more respect to Van Gaal in the way they handle his sacking process.

News that José Mourinho would replace the Dutchman surfaced online minutes after he led United to the FA Cup triumph on Sunday.

Wilkins who was twice an assistant manager at Chelsea believes United could have  learnt from neighbours Manchester City in the way they handled Guardiola's arrival,  announcing it months before the end of the season.

“I saw Jose was at the [David Haye] fight last night and they were trying to interview him after it and he was very non-committal in his response to the media," He told Talksports.

"It’s been a tad disrespectful as far as Van Gaal is concerned. The decision should have been made and United should have come out and said what the situation was.

“I thought the way City dealt with the Manual Pellegrini situation was spot on. He wasn’t going to be there and rumours were rife that Guardiola was going to take over and I thought they handled it in the best possible fashion."

Your opinion Ray, Manchester City's announcing Pep Guardiola's arrival had much more effect on that City team.

The players knew Pellegrini won't be there next season, and so there was the possibility that some wouldn't want to impress much, since they were sure they'll have to start all over next season.

Certain players knew they would be leaving when Pep arrives, so there wasn't any thing much for them to do to make the outgoing manager believe in them.

In my opinion, United announcing Mourinho's arrival would have had more negative effect on the young United side, especially in their run to the FA Cup triumph.
