The Manchester United midfielder was highly critical of Van Gaal as United boss.
The Dutchman had a tough second season at United with his methods and philosophy well questioned by fans, past United players and the media.
Scholes hailed the new United boss and thinks said he has just started coaching a proper football club. He was joking though.
"We all thought Van Gaal was a good fit two years ago and it didn’t quite happen for him. Mourinho has obviously managed big clubs before. Now he has come to a proper big club and there is expectation there." Scholes told Talk sports.
"He has messed around with these Mickey Mouse clubs – Real, Madrid, Chelsea and Inter Milan – and now it looks like he is coming to a proper football club. I’m only joking, of course!
"He has managed big clubs and he has got a track record of winning trophies.
United fans will be hoping Mourinho can do what he's done at all the clubs he's managed in the past.
And that is winning trophies.
