José Mourinho to start negotiations with Manchester United today

The former Chelsea manager will meet with Manchester United officials today and start negotiations on becoming United's next manager.

Mourinho is the favorite to replace Van Gaal whose sack was confirmed on Monday, 48 hours after winning the FA Cup.

Mourinho has been linked with the United since the time Sir Alex Ferguson retired, but a move never materialize.

United have employed two managers in David Moyes and Van Gaal, but both have not meet the expectations of the club, with the club failing to qualify for the Champions League twice in the last three years since Sir Alex retired.

Mourinho is a serial winner, winning league titles in four different countries and has won the Champions League with FC Porto and Inter Milan.

According to the BBC, the Portuguese will meet with Manchester United officials today (Tuesday).

He is expected to put pen to paper on a deal worth around £15m per year, which will put him on par with Manchester City's Pep Guardiola.

The deal will be announced later in the week.
