Manchester United are set to offer Michael Carrick a one year contract at the club according to club sources close to ESPN.
The 34 year old is a free agent in the summer and is currently free to negotiate with other clubs.
United have kept mute over Carrick's situation. And event over the last few weeks have pointed to the fact that he may be leaving the club in the summer.
Carrick's children were used as mascots for United's last home game of the season against Bournemouth, which was the same thing defenders Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra did when playing their last home games for the club.
Carrick's future had always hinged on who manages United next season. The club announced the departure of Van Gaal on Monday, 48 hours after winning the FA Cup.
And José Mourinho is the favorite to replace the Dutchman.
Sources close to the club say Mourinho has given the club the greenlight to offer Carrick a new deal.
A midfielder of Carrick's experience and quality won't be short of offers and there are reports that some English clubs have already registered their interest in the Carrick.
There could also interest from the MLS and China.
