Peter Schmeichel highlights why United should be careful in appointing Mourinho

The former Manchester United goalkeeper believes some members of the Manchester United board would have raised eyebrows about José Mourinho's character as the club prepares to appoint him as manager.

Mourinho second return to Chelsea was marred with controversy with club doctor Eva Carneiro in August 2015. And many believe that was the beginning of the end for the Portuguese who was eventually sacked in December.

Mourinho also reportedly had issues with former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas  which led to dressing room tussle during his stay as Madrid manager.

He also poked former  Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova during an El-Classico, an act which was heavily criticised by United's Sir Bobby Charlton.

Schmeichel thinks United would be weary of this, the two Sirs in the United board must have given their greenlight for the deal to see the light of the day.

"Mourinho has fallen out with a director of football at a club, a president, a team doctor. He has done things that are not in the way Manchester United want their football club to run," Schmeichel told the BBC.

"All these issues would have been brought up and I am sure any decision will have been run by Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton. Without them saying 'yes' to him, it would not happen. Therefore, if he comes in, he is a good choice."
