The new Bayern Munich manager believes José Mourinho's anticipated move to Man United will be one that will benefits both parties.
Van Gaal's sacked was confirmed on Monday, 48 hours after winning the FA Cup. His sack had been expected by some section of the fans and media after United failed to make the top four.
Mourinho has been touted for the United job since January, and with Van Gaal's exit, the Portuguese is expected to be announced United manager within the next few days.
"It is a fantastic challenge for both sides," he told Sky Sports.
"Mourinho is one of the best managers in the world. He has good experience of the Premier League and Manchester United needs this kind of manager."
The Italian is already looking forward to the continued José Mourinho Vs Pep Guardiola rivalry. Both men were staunch opponents during their time in Spain for a number of years as they managed Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
"It will be exciting to have two of the best managers in Manchester.
"It will be fantastic. It will be exciting."
