Manchester United will confirm the appointment of José Mourinho as the team's new manager this week.
This will be coming days after Van Gaal led United to the FA Cup title. Their first since 2004.
Before the FA Cup final, there were plans to confirm the former Chelsea boss as manager irrespective of the outcome of the FA Cup.
United defeated Crystal Palace in the final 2-1 in extra time, but this won't stop the United board from sacking Van Gaal.
United have endured a frustrating season both in the League and in Europe, where the team was knocked out of both the Champions League and the Europa League.
After failing to make the top four, Van Gaal knew he was hanging to his position at United. And felt winning the FA Cup can help him convince the United board.
According to the BBC, the deal to bring in Mourinho has been agreed before the FA Cup final.
Sky Sports are also reporting that Mourinho's Jorge Mendes is due to fly to England from China on Tuesday to negotiate a deal.
Mourinho has been the fans favorite to replace the Dutchman and that will happen sometime this week.
United will pay Van Gaal compensation in the tune of £5m and both parties will part ways.
