Van Gaal made two surprising change to the squad that travel to Wembley for the finals.
Winger Memphis Depay and left back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson were the major and surprise omission from the travelling squad.
Depay has struggled for form since making his move to United, but has always find a place on the United bench for most games.
His exclusion wouldn't be as surprising as that of Borthwick-Jackson.
With Marcos Rojo unconvincing performances recently, the young left back would have been a good replacement in case of any needed change.
Phil Jones also made the squad.
The injured trio of Marcos Rojo, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian returned to the travelling squad, while Marouane Fellaini was also recalled after his three match suspension.
