The BBC football expert thinks Van Gaal will be sacked whether he wins the FA Cup or not.
United have endured a season with a lot of lows and the team will not be in the Champions League next season, which will make the second time in three years United will not be competing with Europe elite clubs.
United can though gain some pride if they defeat Palace in the FA Cup, but Mark thinks that won't be enough to keep Van Gaal.
"Whether United win or not, I don't think it will, keep Van Gaal in his job. He told the BBC.
"Their league position is the way this season will be judged and, by finishing fifth and missing out on the Champions League, it will be seen as a failure.
"Nobody in a position of any prominence or power at United has said Van Gaal will be in charge next year. The only person saying that is Van Gaal.
But while winning the cup will not save him, it would still be important to the club and the fans."
This is where a lot of United fans stand. Winning the FA Cup can't compensate the loss of Champions League football for United.
