The former United midfielder has pinpointed the issues that caused problem for Van Gaal at United.
The Dutchman was sacked 48 hours after winning the FA Cup, after United had endured a frustrating season, in which the team failed to make the top four.
Scholes who was highly critical of Van Gaal believes United should be challenging for titles.
"United should be challenging for trophies but it is the style of football that has been the big problem for the last two years and if he (Mourinho) can get players in that are likely to entertain then the fans will be happy." Scholes said.
That has been one big bone of contention among fans. Can Mourinho play the Manchester United football?, can he play the football that will entertain the Old Trafford faithfuls?
