Revealed: Manchester United paid José Mourinho for waiting

Manchester United may have paid the former Chelsea manager up to £4m for waiting for the United job according to report.

José was sacked by Chelsea last December, and has been linked with a good number of high profile jobs since then.

United on their part have struggled for most of the season, and fans have clamoured for the Portuguese to replace his former boss at United.

United fans feared they would lose out on the 'Special One' once again, after he wasn't the chosen one to replace Sir Alex  Ferguson when he retired.

The United board however remained loyal to Van Gaal, while there were reports of clandestine meetings between Mourinho's camp and Manchester United.

Since his departure from Chelsea, Mourinho has been linked with jobs at Inter Milan, AS Roma, Real Madrid, Everton, PSG and Chinese League.

The former Chelsea manager has remained calm and always looked assured when speaking to the media about his future.

There have been reports that the deal to bring Mourinho to Old Trafford has been agreed a long time ago, the Portuguese has always come out to rubbish such claims while United kept silent all this while.

According to Daily Mail, Mourinho may have earned up to £4m during his waiting period.

The money is to keep Mourinho from other clubs and served as an assurance that the United job was coming once Van Gaal fails to meet some expectations at Old Trafford, with the top four being the central.

News of Mourinho's arrival at United gained momentum minutes after he led United to their first FA Cup triumph in twelve years. But this wasn't enough to keep United out of their promise to Mourinho.
