Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said the Mourinho impact will cause United to challenge for titles next season, even though he reckons two seasons from now will be the best bet for Mourinho to start winning titles at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese was confirmed as Van Gaal's replacement on Friday. He was shown round Carrington yesterday by vice chairman Ed. Woodward and he meet club legend Sir Bobby Charlton.
The United manager has started working as youngsters Marcus Rashford and Borthwik-Jackson have signed new deals with the club, and a lot of transfer activities is expected within the next few weeks at United.
"He'll have the same impact he's had with every team. It was a bit different at Chelsea with the way he finished there but that will make him doubly determined to make that right and that bodes well for United." Carragher told Sky Sports.
"Next season, you'd expect them to be challenging for honours. You can't win something every season - even Mourinho doesn't do that. The disappointing thing for United is that since Sir Alex Ferguson left they haven't really competed for top honours but they certainly will do next season.
"There's no doubt that in 12 months he'll be turning that squad into title challengers and after a year then maybe even title winners. The next season they could still win of course - you can't put that past Jose Mourinho." He added.
United fans can't wait to see the team fighting for titles. In the process of aiming for the Premier League next season, United will almost be guaranteed a place in the top four, which will be highly welcomed by the fans.
