Experienced Man United midfielder hopeful of securing new deal

Out of contract Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is hoping he can secure a new deal at the club.

Michael Carrick is believed to be on his way out of the club, after his children were used a mascots for United's last home game against Bournemouth in the Premier League. Which was what former defenders Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand did while playing their last games at Old Trafford.

Carrick's future had always depended on who manages United next season, and with José Mourinho already confirmed as the new manager, Carrick hopes his future will be sorted out this week.

'I’m hopeful (of staying). There’s no news as yet but we’ll have to wait and see what happens next week,' he told Sky Sports via Daily Mail.

"I haven’t got a timescale on it to be honest. This week has been a bit crazy with the new manager so I’ve come away to get away from it. We’ll take it up next week."

The 34 year old is currently taking time out to relax and is enjoying the Monaco Grand Prix.

Carrick is one of the most experienced players in the current United squad, and it will be wise for Mourinho to keep him.
