Peter Schmeichel: Man United appointment of Mourinho was long overdue

The former Manchester United goalkeeper thinks Manchester United have finally gotten a manager that can save Manchester United.

United have been on a decline since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The team have failed to qualify for the Champions League twice in the last three years, and haven't finished better than fourth since  Fergie retired.

Schmeichel whose son won the Premier League with Leicester City thinks United will be employing a man who loves the club, and one of the biggest manager in the world.

"On the top of Mourinho's list was always Manchester United, now he has the opportunity. Schmeichel told the BBC.

"He will be prepared and ready to do it but he has to go back to the values of the football club - a very strong team consisting of exciting players who create chances and score goals. All that has been missing.

"Now they have a guy that is supposed to be the biggest manager in the world, the one that really could save Manchester United. It has been a brave decision but one that is long overdue."
