Wayne Rooney eyes midfield role at United, but leaves England future to Roy Hodgson

The Manchester United skipper believes his future with the club lies in the midfield.

Rooney has long been described as an almost perfect replacement for Paul Scholes.

He displayed some of the Paul Scholes trademark long passes in the game against Bournemouth, and assisted United's third goal from the process.

"Sometimes you have to make choices in your career and at the moment it's better for me to play deeper," He told the BBC.

The all time England highest goal scorer however still thinks he can lead the lines for England, while admitting he will have to discuss his  position in the England squad with manager Roy Hodgson.

"It could be a bit different for England where I could still be the striker - but probably next season that's where I see myself playing.

"For Manchester United at the minute, it's playing in midfield and I'm sure Roy Hodgson will have his ideas of where he thinks is best for me.

"It could be where I play for England - but that's down to Roy. I'm sure we'll speak when we meet up and he'll tell me where he wants me to play."

With the form of the likes of Jamie Vardy and Harry Keane, it will be difficult for Rooney to start upfront as a striker. His best bet for the national team also seem to be in the midfield.
