The Manchester United vice- chairman has opened up on why the club appointed Nicky Butt as the head Manchester United's academy.
The former player was a part of the golden class if 1992 that included current United assistant manager Ryan Giggs.
Butt, 41 a defensive midfielder in his playing days is also among the class of 92 players that owns Salford City.
Ed Woodward speaking on the appointment said: Via Daily Star
“I am delighted that Nicky has
accepted the role of head of academy.
“As a graduate of its finest team in the modern era, Nicky will bring passion, energy and experience to drive the academy forward, retaining the characteristics that give us a competitive advantage, namely an unmatched track record of player development together with the runway of first-team action.
“In the last four years, some 15 academy graduates have played for the first team, playing a total of 173 appearances – a record of which the club is very proud.”
Nicky will be expected to produce another set of youngsters that will be able to graduate into the United first team, and turn into world class players like himself and the likes of Scholes and Giggs.
