Van Gaal has confirmed that Luke Shaw will not feature for United this season, but rather the player would be back stronger next season.
Shaw was injured last September, during the Champions League match with PSV, where he suffered double fracture. It's been a long way to recovery for the defender who is back in training.
Van Gaal has previously given fans and the player hope that he could be back this season, for the FA Cup final. But the Dutchman has opened up that he only said that to motivate the player.
"I have always said to Luke that he can play in the final to keep his motivation high, but now I cannot say that anymore because we are in the final." He told MUTV ahead of United last League game with Bournemouth.
"It is a pity because he cannot reach that level to play. He needs more time to play but it keeps his motivation very high. It is still high and I have to give compliments to him because it is not easy to be away for such a long time. He is coming back, but he is coming back next season."
