Van Gaal hopes to remain Manchester United manager next season

The Dutchman is hoping to be in charge at Old Trafford next season, even though he knows the final decision lies with the board.

"I have said I shall be here, that is my opinion, so the board has to decide if it is like that." He said.

The Old Trafford giants have endured a frustrating season to be fair.

United were knocked out of both the Champions League and Europa League. The team also squandered their best chance of making the top four with the 3-2 loss to West Ham on Tuesday.

United play Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, and winning the competition  could serve as damage limitation for Van Gaal.

"We can win the FA Cup. We are still in the race (for top four). How many teams can say that?

"Not many. Our aim was to qualify. Of course you can say Manchester United need to be champions, yes I know the expectations are like that but I don't think that is realistic." He added.
