Two of these three things must happen for United to make the top four this season

Manchester United head into their last three games of the season, having all to play for.

Currently fifth on the table, and out of qualification for next season's Champions League, United know they blew up a great chance over the weekend with a pedestrian  1-1 draw with champions elect: Leicester City.

United's draw, quickly followed by City's defeat on Sunday meant United threw away a precious chance of closing the gap, or overtaking the Citizens, with United have a game in hand.

As it stands

Pos.    Club.      Played.  Points
3.     Arsenal        36          67
4.     Man City      36          64
5.     Man Utd       35          60
6.     West Ham    35          59

From the table, it maybe safe to say the Gunners are almost safe in running for a Champions League spot. Pending any unforeseen circumstance of them losing their last two matches.

Using the table, and the remaining fixtures as a guide, two of these three things must happen for United to make the top four.

1. United must win all their remaining fixtures.

For United to sneak into the top four, Van Gaal's men must first win all their remaining three matches.

United play Norwich first this coming Saturday away, before travelling to Upton park to face West Ham, in what looks like another potential banana peel.

United then host Bournemouth on the last day of the season.

For the Reds to stand a chance of making the top four, it begins with them winning all their matches.

This is non negotiable. Any further slip up, makes it harder than it is right now.

Task possible, depending on how desperate team plays.

2. Arsenal must defeat or draw  Manchester City at the Etihad

Both teams will be facing each other on Sunday (May 8). This will be United's last hope to make the top four.

Manchester City hosts the Gunners.

A victory for the Citizens will still put them a point ahead of United, even if United win their two games to level on the same number of games.

A draw will accumulate City's point to 65, while if United will win their two games, they will be on 66 points. That will be a one point lead for United , that will move the Reds into fourth position.

Therefore an Arsenal draw or victory will be what United fans will be hoping for.

With City having a Champions League match with Real on Wednesday, the Gunners will be slight favorite to pick at least a point from the game, which would favour United.

3. Either City or Arsenal lose their last two games

This is the least possible of the three things that can make United crawl into the top four.

If one of the two teams above Unites lose their last two games, and United win it's last three, then Van Gaal's men would make the top four.

Arsenal play City away before hosting an already relegated Aston Villa on the last day of the season.

City on their part play Arsenal at the Etihad, before travelling to Swansea on the last match day of the season.
The probability of this happening bus very very low, but it's football.

Never say never.
