Manchester United were thought to be the favorite to sign the 18 year old, but Bayern have confirmed his move to the German Champions. In a move that came as a rude shock to a lot of United fans.
Manchester United however missed out on the Benfica star because of their sluggishness and indecision, according to Sky Sports.
According to the report, Benfica were willing to sell the player, before the European Championship, and the player would have agreed to join United, if the Old Trafford giants had made a move.
The player's agent Jorge Mendes, is also close to United, and was ready to do business, but didn't have the luxury of time, waiting for United as they deliberate on whether to sign the player or not.
According to an earlier report, Van Gaal stopped the pursuit of Sanches in favour of other players.
Bayern ended up signing the player for £27.5m.
