De Gea wants to be world best

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has revealed his lofty ambition of wanting to become the best shot stopper in the world.

The Spaniard's future was under intense speculation at the start of the season, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in him. This affected his playing time at the start of the campaign as Van Gaal preferred new signing Romero to him for psychological reasons.

He has since signed a new deal and returned to first team action.

Speaking to the official United website ahead of their clash with Swansea, he said:

"The ultimate aim is to be known as the world's best.

"I try to train and I try to play in games and to do the best I possibly can in order to attain that level and to be able to make it.

"Of course, getting to be number one keeper in the world is a tough ask because there are loads of goalkeepers out there and some very good ones too.

"But I always try to give my very best to reach that standard."

The Spaniard is already considered by many as one if the best goalkeepers in world football currently, and news of another bid at the end of the season from Madrid has surfaced online again.
