Ray Wilkins advises Van Gaal: United need players with 'pace and power'

The former Chelsea assistant manager believes United need players with 'power and pace'.

Newcastle came from behind twice to snatch a draw against United, while United have lacked a consistent presence, power and flair on the wings throughout this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former United midfielder said:

“No matter where he’s (Van Gaal) been, he’s been a superstar.

“But this is a different task, it’s Manchester United, probably one of the biggest clubs on the planet, certainly in the top three.

“He’s spent a lot of money, somewhere along the line the pressure will tell.

“They are probably playing his brand of football which he enjoys. Now in Spain and Holland, that’s fine. But it’s not fine at Manchester United.

“They need a bit of gung-ho, a bit of pace, a bit of power.”

Van Gaal has come out to say he needs wingers with speed and creativity, but going by his recent comments, United may not be signing any new player this January.
