Three reasons United must give the F.A Cup their all

Manchester United will be hoping to get their second victory in their second match of the new year, when the team host Sheffield United, in the F.A cup third round.

There seem to be a hidden theory that big teams like Manchester United don't take cup competitions too serious, preferring league and European glory. This  can be seen in the mix of players these teams field, especially in lower rounds like this.

But for United, the F.A cup this season should mean a lot.

Redlyunited looks at three reasons United must give wining the F.A cup a shot.

1. Most likely chance of a silverware:

Manchester United's season have gone from a good start to an unconvincing state. The team is not too far from challenging for the title, but based on current performances, there must be rapid improvement for that to happen.

The Europa League is one United is not used to, and facing relatively unknown European teams could be tricky.

Having been knocked out of the Capital One cup, the F.A cup is no doubt United's best bet to win a silverware this season.

2. Been long United won it:

While United remain one of the most successful teams in the history of the F.A cup,  you have to go back to the year 2004, to see the last time United won the competition. That's 11 years ago.

For a team like United, being starved of the English F.A cup for that long isn't too good. The current team must give it their all to win it this time.

3. Van Gaal needs a trophy to show for money spent, and ease the pressure:

Since arriving in England, the Dutchman has spent over £250m on transfers. And the longer time it takes for him to win a trophy, the more pressure he puts on himself.

For Van Gaal, winning the F.A cup this season would do his stay at United a lot of good, instill confidence and a winning mindset into the United squad.

After spending that amount of money, he needs a cup or trophy bad and fast.

He has come under intense criticism for his playing pattern and tactics. Winning a competition like the F.A cup will help reduce the criticism and pressure.

Do you think United can win the F.A cup this season?
