Harry Redknapp: United waiting to get Pep Guardiola or Diego Simeone

The former Tottenham boss thinks United may wait till the end of the season, after fully missing out of the top four before appointing a new manager.

Current manager Van Gaal is facing the sack after his side lost to Southampton on Saturday. José Mourinho is the name that popularly comes up as a replacement for the Dutchman, but Redknapp thinks the sluggishness of  the United board in appointing the Portuguese means they are not interested in him.

In his column in The Telegraph, Redknapp wrote:

"I cannot see anything happening with Van Gaal because, quite simply, if United wanted to get rid of him they would have done it by now.

"If the United board had wanted to appoint Mourinho they would have done it already so I think they will wait until the summer and go for somebody like Pep Guardiola or Diego Simeone, if they miss out on the top four.

"United will have no problems attracting managers of that calibre because of their reputation."
