Newcastle 3 -3 Manchester United: Player ratings

De Gea: 7

Made some fantastic blocks and save. He must be wondering why his team couldn't wrap up the win.

Ashley Young: 6
Good game for the winger turned defender. Brilliant going forward, but was caught in the wrong position few times in the game.

Smalling: 5

His good performance was tinted by one or two costly actions. Most importantly is the penalty conceded. Couldn't organize his defence well.

Blind:  5.5

Part of a defensive set up that looked porous. Couldn't assert his himself on the game.

Darmian: 5
He looked like the most susceptible of the back four, understandably so, when a right back plays at left back.

Fellaini: 4

Another week, lazy and unconvincing performance from the Belgian. Did well in forcing the United penalty, and made some blocks in the first half, and that was all. Missed a fantastic chance, that probably caused United the game.

Schneiderlin: 5

Another passerby in the game. Couldn't stop the barrage  of Newcastle's attack. Failed to provide a solid shield for the back four.

Lingard: 5.5

Scored a brilliant goal from a great move, missed a glorious chance, that made Van Gaal mad, another culprit for the draw.

Herrera: 5

Showed flashes of intelligence and brilliance, but couldn't control the game as much as he would have loved. Faded as the game grew.

Martial : 6

Played on the right wing, which reduced his effectiveness. Had an average performance, couldn't turn his runs and dribbles into goal scoring chances.

Rooney: 8

Undoubtedly United's best player on the night. Two goals, one assist, and a spirited performance from the United skipper. Hoping he continues with his brilliant form.

Subs:

Depay : 5.5

His drive, run and wiliness to take on the Newcastle defence led to United's third  goal. Good cameo performance, could have done more though.

Mata: 4

Came on late in the game, had some great touches in the Newcastle box, and that was all.
