Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick could feature for United in their F.A cup fourth round, away to Derby County.
His last appearance for United was as a substitute in the match against Swansea on January 9.
Van Gaal speaking to the media ahead of the clash confirmed that the 34 year old is coming back.
Same cannot be said of defender Matteo Darmian, as the Dutchman confirmed he will miss the tie.
“It’s more or less the same. Darmian is now out and maybe Michael Carrick shall come in but of course he’s not able to play 90 minutes.
But it’s very good he is coming back. With Darmian, it is very positive actually. It’s not too severe but he’s not able to play against Derby.” Van Gaal said.
Van Gaal however failed to give specific answers to whether Schweinsteiger and Phil Jones could make the match.
