Van Gaal must be facing one of his most difficult period as a coach. The Dutchman has not been sacked as United coach, but the media and fans have almost declared his position vacant.
His playing methods and results have been one the worse United fans have witnessed in a while.
No victory in their last six matches, three consecutive defeats, two of those to newly promoted teams in the Premier League says it all.
A number of high profile names have been linked to United. But the two most prominent are Pep Guardiola and José Mourinho.
Guardiola's future is not crystal clear for now, as though it's been confirmed he would be leaving Bayern, his destination still remains unknown to the media, though reports favor a move to Manchester City.
Mourinho on his part was sacked as Chelsea manager some days ago, following Chelsea's poor start to the season. He looks the most likely to take over from Van Gaal in case of a sack or walk away.
Is José the best man for the United job?
Redlyunited looks at three reasons he might not be the best for the United job.
1. HIS EGO IS SIMILAR TO THAT VAN GAAL:
One of Van Gaal's main Achilles hill at Old Trafford is his ego. Fans believe the Dutchman is stubborn and cocky.
Of course every successful football manager needs an element of that, but if fans believe Van Gaal is arrogant, they better not wait to see those traits in Mourinho.
The Portuguese is not only attention seeking, seemingly lousy, but may land United into a lot of fines and troubles. Imagine Mourinho been criticized by former United players such as Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and a host of other Old Trafford legends. Can he tolerate such in good fate? Doubt that. Both men worked together at Barcelona and have similar personality.
2. HIS STYLE OF PLAY:
José is a manager that gets the job done anyhow, One of his greatest footballing strategy is 'packing the bus' and winning in an ugly manner, which United fans are not used to, and use to criticise him about as an opponent. Now as their coach, can they tolerate that?
One of the main point of concern for Van Gaal has been his style of football, United fans care about the brand of football their team is playing as much as the results, so with José, they may have to choose one. His typical teams lacks so much flair, dribbles and skills that have been embedded in the United culture by Sir Alex.
3. HE IS NOT A LONG TERM COACH:
When Mourinho returned to Chelsea for his second term, he said he was more matured, and a lot of fans and pundits felt Chelsea may have hired their own Sir Alex. One who would manage the club for a long time, build a solid structure and legacy.
But that was a dream that wouldn't come to pass. Eighteen months into his return, the 'matured one' was sacked.
This with his past records shows that the Portuguese is not too good at building long lasting footballing structure and legacy. This may be what will forever distinguish him from Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
Internal problems seem to have a way of getting him out of jobs. His problem with Chelsea doctor Eva, looked like the beginning of his turmoil at Chelsea, at Real Madrid too, there were a lot of in-team problems between Iker Casillas, Ronaldo and others.
And with a team like United, there would always be similar issues, if a matured Mourinho couldn't handle things right at Chelsea, United will need an much more matured Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Do you think Mourinho is the right man United?
I agree with your comments but I think you need to spell check your articles before release to the outside world. I recommend a site called grammarly.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Edward for your nice and honest observation. Will do more with spell checking and use that site. Thanks a million.
