The Dutchman has admitted that the confidence and patience bestowed on him by United board, led by Ed. Woodward is generating a lot of pressure for him.
Despite the sack rants from the United fans, media and pundits, the United board have stood firmly behind Van Gaal, as they appear extremely reluctant in sacking him.
But the experienced Dutchman knows such confidence could be dangerous.
Speaking on the support he has been receiving from the board, he said:(Via ITV)
"It is fantastic, of course, but also that gives you a lot of pressure because when the board has such confidence in you, the pressure is much higher than when they say it's your last game or something like that.
"Then the confidence is not so high and you can fight against it - and when you can fight, you have bigger motivation than when they support you.
This means Van Gaal knows that if results don't improve at Old Trafford, he would be powerless to resist being sacked.
