Wayne Rooney wants new deal for Roy Hodgson : Gives his reasons

The Manchester United and England captain has made case for Roy Hodgson to remain as The Three Lions manager after the European Championship.

Roy Hodgson’s current deal with the FA expires at the end of the European Championship.

FA boss Greg Dyke has opened up that the manager would only earn a new deal on the basis on England's success at the ongoing European Championship.

The FA chairman pegs his definition of success at the team getting to the semifinals or thereabout.

"What we have said is, if we have done well and played well, then I think (the contract) will be renewed,” the FA boss said.

“Doing well? Semi-finals would be great; quarter-finals if we play well and meet one of the best sides and, unfortunately, lost or went out on penalties, something like that."

Roy Hodgson was appointed England's manager four year ago, and has a 61% win rate.

The Three Lions were unbeaten en route the European Championship, winning 16, and drawing four of their qualifying matches.

Rooney wants the decision makers to look at the high number of players that have made their debut under Hodgson, and a number of factors before arriving at a decision.

"Of course we want him to stay. "Rooney said.

"Again, that’s down to his bosses but of course, as players, we want him to stay.

"It shouldn’t go unnoticed the amount of young players he’s introduced into the squad over the last four years either. There was a big issue in terms of everyone saying we didn’t have enough young players coming through in England, where other countries did.

"In fairness to the Premier League clubs they've brought young players through and Roy has picked them."

"In my opinion he has not only created a very good team but also a fantastic atmosphere around the training ground when we meet up, and a great base for England's future in the next six to eight years."
