Alan Shearer slams Garry Neville for role in England's Euro fallout

The legendary England striker has questioned former Manchester United defender Garry Neville's role as part of the coaching crew of the Three Lions team to the European Championship.

England suffered an infamous 2-1 defeat to Iceland that got them knocked out of the competition.

Iceland's first goal was from a poorly defended long throw-in, that Shearer believes a person like Neville as part of the coaching crew should have anticipated and guided the team against.

“What on earth is Gary Neville doing? He was one of the best defenders in the world, he will know Iceland’s strength at set-pieces so surely he has been working on defending them all week,” Shearer told the BBC.

"So why is Wayne Rooney, who is not deemed a good enough header of the ball to be in the box when we are attacking corners, being asked to mark one of Iceland’s best headers of the ball?

"So it’s not just the manager, it’s the coaching staff as well."
