Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has made it clear he wants to leave the club, and would welcome a move to Manchester United via his agent.
The German club will however not let the player leave.
Mkhitaryan's contract with the club expires next summer, and the club can cash in on the 27 year old now, rather than letting him leave for free.
José Mourinho is believed to have made enquiries about the player's availability, but the club stated that he is not for sale.
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke says the player is refusing to sign a new deal.
"We've been negotiating a new deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months," he said via ESPN.
"We now know he won't sign an extension. There was never a promise that he can leave us prematurely."
"We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season." He added.
This is coming after the player's agent Mino Raiola, says the player wants to join United by any means.
"Manchester United are a unique opportunity," Raiola said.
"Micki wants to join them now by any means."
