The England captain has described Marcus Rashford exponential rise to becoming England's youngest player to play at the European Championship as 'a great story.'
The 18 year broke Wayne Rooney's record as the youngest player to feature for England at the European Championship at 18 years 228 days, four days younger than Rooney who holds the record before.
Rashford made his Manchester debut in February this season, made his international debut about three months later, and entered as a substitute in the 73rd minute in England's 2-1 win over Wales to set the record.
Rooney commenting on his club and national teammate said:
"He will be delighted." He told the BBC after the game.
"I am sure he is delighted and I am really pleased for him.
"I saw today that it was 112 days ago that he made his debut for Man United and he is now playing on the biggest stage for England. It is a great story and we are all pleased for him."
