Club President to open talks with United over young striker

Barnsley are keen on extending the loan spell of Manchester United youngster Ashley Fletcher.

The 20 year old played a key role in the the Tykes promotion into the Championship last season. He joined on loan in January, and has since scored nine goals in 26 games, which includes the first goal in their Wembley playoff against Millwall.

The player has been tipped to emulate Marcus Rashford, by breaking through into the first team soon. But his current team still want him around.

Barnsley president Watkins who was a former director at United is hoping he can use his Old Trafford connection to push for an extended the for the player.

“The loan system is changing, but still if Premier League clubs loan out their young talent they will want them to play and develop, and I believe Ashley has done that." he said.

"It would be fantastic to have Ashley with us in the Championship but we will have to open up our discussions and see where we get to.

"I do know the people at Manchester United from my previous associations there – that could help, you never know."

Fletcher represents the future, and it is left to be seen what decision Mourinho and the other academy managers would arrive at.

With United been currently linked to a number of established players, another loan move would be more beneficial to the young forward.
