Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian could be back in contention for selection for the game against Chelsea.
The Italian suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League game away to Wolfsburg, and has not played for the side since then.
Van Gaal while providing an update on the injury situation at Old Trafford ahead of the boxing day tie with Stoke said:
"I think Darmian shall come [back] next week and then maybe against Chelsea, we have to see that but, of course, we have injuries that take a long time. For example, Shaw, Valencia and Rojo, and you cannot change that."
It will be great to see the defender back in action as United have not had a consistent right back since his absence.
