Manchester United produced another goalless draw at Old Trafford. For the records, Five of Manchester United's last nine matches have ended 0-0. And on a day United could have taken a step closer to the top of the table, a goal was all that was lacking.
It was a poor showing on the attacking front for United as the team only had one shot on target for the whole ninety minutes.
On a day nothing seemed to work to for the boys in red, Redlyunited grades the performance of the Van Gaal led team.
De Gea : 7
The goalkeeper was at his best on the evening. Made some important saves for the team. A typical DeGea performance.
McNair: 5.5
The Irishman started at right back and was effective. He attacked and put in some decent crosses. He was substituted the start of the second half.
Smalling: 7
He was again the spine of the defence, keeping Andy Carroll at bay. He was lucky not to have scored an own goal early one. Solid and composed performance from the defender.
Blind : 5.5
The Dutchman was not too convincing on the attack, he gave away the ball cheaply once or twice. Other than that he continued his developing partnership with Smalling.
Darmian : 6
He started in the unconventional left back. His crosses were occasionally not top notch- that was expected though. Other than that he was solid. That was his second game on the left and he has been yellow carded on both occasions.
Schneiderlin: 5
He started the game strongly, providing cover for the back four, but was substituted before half time, most likely due to a hamstring problem. Another injury concern for Van Gaal.
Schweinsteiger : 5.5
The German couldn't save United today. A much more improved performance from the midfielder, had more influence on the game, but not his lucky day.
Mata : 5
In Wayne Rooney's absence, a lot of United's creativity relied on the Spaniard. Started the game on the right and ended it behind the striker. But all in all, he tried his best but couldn't create the spark needed.
Fellaini : 4
He was a surprise name in the starting eleven, but his performance was no surprise. He had arguably United best chance of the game, but couldn't convert from close range. He was typically lazy and could have offered more.
Lingard : 5.5
The youngster was at his hardworking best. Making the runs, delivering the crosses and trying to unlock a tight West Ham defence. The match is best defined as one of those learning matches for the young England star.
Martial: 7
The birthday boy couldn't give himself the best present, he was no doubt United's most industrious man in the attack. He was presented with a glorious chance, but he failed to convert. Maybe still too young to fully spearhead United's attack.
Subs
Verela : 5.5
Came on at half time for his debut. Put in a decent performance.
Carrick : 6
Came on for injured Schneiderlin, and provided calmness and stability to the midfield. But couldn't provide the all important spark.
Depay: 5
Came on late and was lively. His cross late on almost led to a goal, but it was not meant to be. Maybe he would have offered more If he had started.
