Criticism from ex-players affecting Van Gaal: Former Liverpool star

Former Liverpool attacker  Boudewijn Zenden believes Van Gaal's task at United has not been made any easier by the criticism he has received from the club's former players.

The Dutchman has come under intense criticism from some United legends such as Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and others, for his playing pattern and tactics.

But Zenden has jumped to the defense of his fellow countryman.

"He has the crowd against him and there's pressure on him and the management."

"Ex-players having their say isn't making it any easier." He added.

Zenden, who is currently the assistant manager at Jong PSV has said only victories can save Van Gaal at United.

"But only wins can save him. The December games come thick and fast and can make or break a season."

United are winless in their last six games and have lost the last three, but Zenden says the United board are happy with Van Gaal.

"People at United are happy with Van Gaal and what he's doing behind the scenes." He added.

United travel to Stoke for their boxing day match, a must win for Van Gaal.
