The manager has praised young defender Tim Fosu-Mensah after his wonderful performance against Watford.
The Dutch defender was having his first full match debut against Watford, after coming on as a substitute against Arsenal over the weekend.
However as a centre back against the duo of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney, he had a lot on his hands. But the defender have an excellent show, especially after man marking Ighalo on a couple of occasions in tight situations.
Van Gaal commenting on his performance after the game said: (Via Man United official website)
"Timothy has saved us three times, I think, because of his speed.
"So I was very pleased that he was on the pitch. He wanted to be changed early in the second half [because he picked up a knock] but I let him stay on because he always closed the door for us.
"I think the youngsters have given us a lot of spirit and now."
The defender appeared overzealous at the start of the game, but calmed down after receiving a yellow card, buy all in all he was another huge positive for United.
