The Spanish playmaker was a surprisingly absent from the squad that face Liverpool, and his absence caused some panic among United fans.
He followed Van Gaal to the pre-match press conference ahead of the match.
Van Gaal has however revealed that the player had a tight groin and that he was rested as a precautionary measure. Speaking befire the game he said:
"He (Herrera) has a tight groin and we do not want to risk him."
