England legend claims Rooney won't make his England starting eleven

Matt Le Tissier believes the England and Manchester United captain doesn't merit a place in the national team's starting eleven.

Rooney is currently out injured and is expected to be back in time for the European Championship.

The player and his club have had a difficult season, with the  striker scoring only scored seven Premier  League goals so far.

His dip in form has coincided with the rise of English strikers like Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy. The duo currently have forty (40) Premier League goals between them and Matt Le Tissier says if he were the England coach, Rooney on current form won't be a starter.

Asked if he would pick Rooney when the Championship starts,he replied:
“Not at the moment, based on form. He told the Guardian.

“You also have to take into consideration the fact that when he’s been injured he’s not been great at coming back and hitting form straight away.

“At the moment, based on what I’ve seen this season, I wouldn’t say that he does get in the side. But obviously Roy Hodgson is very loyal to his players, he is his captain. In my world he probably wouldn’t play but in Roy’s world, if he’s fit, I think he’ll play.

“I’d have him in the squad but he wouldn’t make the starting eleven". He added.

Rooney is currently England highest goal scorer with fifty one (51) goals.
