Former England manager claims Roy Hodgson could have taken the risk of giving Rashford his senior debut

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson thinks Roy Hodgson could have taken the risk of calling United youngster Rashford into the senior squad for England's upcoming friendlies.

The United striker has been a revelation this season and has been called up to the U-20 squad.

Erikson who took Walcott to the 2006 World Cup thinks this coming friendlies provided a good chance for the England manager to access the youngster if he is capable of making the Euro squad.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Talksport, Eriksson said:

"If Roy wants to take a risk with Rashford, he should play him in the friendlies and take a look at him.

"If he’s ready, if he’s good enough, then of course [he should make the squad to the European Championship].

"I took a risk when I took Walcott because he didn’t play any friendly games for us, so that was a risk.

"So it’s better to let him play some friendlies to see if he’s ready or not.”

England will play Germany on Saturday.
