The England manager has assured his captain that he is in England's plan for the Championship. Rooney is facing immense criticism after the England team defeated World Champions Germany in his absence.
The likes of Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane are putting a question mark on Wayne Rooney's need to start for the Three Lions.
A lot of English fans think the United captain should not be a starter for England at the competition. (See that here), but Roy Hodgson is not buying such ideas.
"I have to repeat Wayne is our captain and he has captained the team extremely well in the past two years. He said via the BBC
"He took us through a qualifying campaign where we had a complete success with 10 wins out out 10. It doesn't please me too much that it is suggested now that the moment he is injured and doesn't play he gets jettisoned in some way. He doesn't deserve that."
The England manager believes that the presence of abundant players for the team will breed healthy competition and motivation. He believes the likes of Vardy and Kane's will spur Rooney to his best, while when Rooney is back, he also will force the new players to do well.
"When he comes back and is fit again he is going to be putting enormous pressure on these players, just like these players will be putting enormous pressure on him - and that is the situation we are looking forward to." He added.
