David De Gea: 6.5
Typical De Gea performance. He answered when called on. He didn't have much to do in the first half, but helped preserved United's lead with an important save in the 83 minute.
Antonio Valencia: 7
Didn't have much defensive work to do, and was free to roam and help the attack. He provided the assist for United's first goal. Combined well with Mata on a number of occasions.
Chris Smalling: 6
Aston Villa offered little going forward, so he had very little to do. Organized his defense well. He was a little shaky late into the game, when Villa decided to step up their game.
Daley Blind: 7.5
Another intelligent performance from the Dutchman. Tidy and calm as usual. Helped with a good number of long passes in the first half. He provided the all important disturbance to prevent a Villa goal late into the game.
Marcos Rojo: 6
Strong and energetic display from the Argentine. Helped in the attack on a good number of occasions.
Morgan Schneiderlin: 6.5
Another good game for the Frenchman. Provided a civet for the back four and had a good time on the attacking front, making some nice runs and moves.
Maroune Fellaini : 5.5
Played the whole 90 minutes without much impact. Thankfully Villa were not in the game, hence his pedestrian performance was not too felt.
Juan Mata: 7.5
One of his best performance in a long while. Unlucky not to be on the score sheet with a half chance from a United corner midway the second half. Combined well with Valencia, and Rashford for a lot of nice movements in the Villa final third. Allowed to roam around the pitch and did a good work all round.
Wayne Rooney: 7
His first start in over two months. Initiated the all important move that led to United's first goal, with his over 60m pass to Valencia. Played well while on the pitch, dropped down to the midfield a couple of time. Had a half chance he should have done better with.
Memphis Depay : 6
Had a silent first half, came to life in the early stages of the second half with some decent runs and effort. But all round he performed less than expected.
Marcus Rashford: 7.5
Another match saving performance and goal from the youngster. Seven in twelve appearances for United in his short spell in the first team. He's showed great promise so far.
Substitutes
Jesse Lingard: 4
Came on for Rooney, but couldn't make any impact.
Anthony Martial: 6
Showed much but showed his stuff. Provided a pass for Depay, that could have given United the second goal.
Fosu-Mensah: Not Rated
Didn't have much time to get rated.
