Former Chelsea director Frank Arnesen, has given reasons why United should not appoint José Mourinho as Van Gaal 's successor.
The former Chelsea manager is the favorite to replace Van Gaal, but Arnesen thinks Mourinho will destroy the team's philosophy of raising young players.
The former Hamburger SV director said:
"Mourinho is very demanding and sometimes the players can’t take it."
“He made some drastic changes(at Chelsea) and it cost him. What would happen if they replaced van Gaal with Mourinho? The philosophy of Manchester United will go out of the window. But maybe they are that keen to have success.
“Van Gaal could not buy all his players, but he has done tremendously well with the young kids.
"Manchester United should give him at least one year more."
Van Gaal has given about 14 academy players their debuts since becoming United's manager and their progression will be of serious concern if Mourinho is appointed as United manager.
