The Gunners are reported preparing a stunning move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The PSG striker will be a free agent in the summer and United were believed to be leading the race to sign the Swede.
The expected arrival of Mourinho is another huge plus for the deal, as both the player and the striker are keen on reuniting at United.
Daily Star is however reporting that Arsenal are now preparing to lure the striker to the Emirates.
The Gunners have lacked firepower upfront and manager Arsene Wenger sees the 34 year old as a possible solution.
Wenger is under immense criticism from the Arsenal fans after his team's title challenge some months ago has turned to a battle for top four spot.
Wenger formally ruled out a move for the Swede.
"We are not on Zlatan’s case. Even at 34, he’s had a great season at PSG." He said some weeks ago.
But Star Sports understand that the club might have changed their stand on the player are now actively interested in the player.
