The Manchester United captain is not happy with his manager for substituting him in the 1-0 win over Villa, Van Gaal has revealed.
Rooney, making his first start in over two month for United was brought out on the 67th minute after initiating the move that led to United's only goal of the game.
He had a brilliant first half, but his performance dropped a little in the second half, and Van Gaal didn't hesitate to substitute his captain.
“Wayne Rooney hasn't played 90 minutes in the last two and a half months. But he was angry with me because he wanted to play for 90 minutes." Van Gaal said after the match.
“But you could see he was losing balls in the second half and not in the first half because he was very good in the first half. I think the goal was also his goal.
"It shows a good spirit when you want to play for 90 minutes. But you cannot buildup your capacity in three days of training but I was very positive about his first half." The Dutchman added.
