Van Gaal reveals he almost benched match winner Rashford against Aston Villa

The Manchester United gaffer has revealed that he almost rested goal scorer,  Rashford for the Aston Villa game.

The United youngster has started eleven (11) consecutive games, before the Villa match, and Van Gaal thought it was ideal to give him a rest.

The player however convinced the manager that he is fit to play, hence Van Gaal started him. The young striker scored the only goal of the game to take his goal tally to seven in twelve games for United.

"I wanted to change Rashford. I have doubted for a long time because he is young and he has played the last, how many matches? You know that better than I do."

“At the end I didn't want to do that because I wanted to take profit from his momentum. He said he was very positive to play.

He said 'I am fit to play' so then I thought I could change him before the end. The last 15 minutes is always very important for a player so I changed him because of that.”

With the return of Rooney, the youngster will hopefully get the much needed rest, as he has played a lot of games within a short period.
