The Dutchman's woeful season as United manager continued on Sunday, when his team lost 3-0 to Tottenham. A defeat that seem to have erased any glimpse of a top four finish for United.
The veteran manager has been media sacked twice, though the United board are yet to sack him.
The United board have refused to sack him as they would save up to €6m if they keep faith with the Dutchman till the end of the season while United officially fails to make the top four.
According to the Independent, there is a clause in Van Gaal's contract that his compensation if sacked before his three year contract expires, when the team fails to qualify for the Champions League would be reduced greatly. Which was a similar clause inserted in David Moyes' contract.
The former Everton manager was finally sacked after it was mathematically impossible for United to qualify for the Champions League, and a similar case awaits Van Gaal.
