50 famous Sir Alex Ferguson quotes: Happy birthday Sir Alex

Today is Sir Alex Ferguson’s birthday. A coach who has seen it all, done it all and won it all as far as club football is concern. Apart from being the most successful club football manager in England, Sir Alex Ferguson has also spoken and written some words that cannot be forgotten in the history of British and world football.

Redlyunited brings you 50 of such words.

1.  ‘‘I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. Football. Bloody hell.’’ (After winning the Champions League with two stoppage-time goals in 1999, that completed United’s treble and one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most successful seasons at United).

2.  ‘‘At the end of this game, the European cup will only be six feet away from you, and you’ll not even be able to touch it if we lose. And for many of you, that will be the closest you will ever get. Don’t you dare come back in here without giving your all.’’ (1999 Champions league final, half time team talk)

3.  ‘‘Whether dribbling or sprinting, Ryan can leave the best defenders with twisted blood.” (On Ryan Giggs).

4.  ‘‘He was 13 and floated over the ground like a cocker spaniel chasing a piece of silver paper in the wind.’’ Sir Alex Ferguson’s comments on the first time he saw Welsh wing wizard, United’s legend and now assistant coach Ryan Giggs.

5.  ‘‘He was also walking up the pitch for the second goal, needing a rest. He was not fit enough for a game of that standard. The pace of the game demanded a referee who was fit. He was not fit. It is an indictment of our game.’’ (On referee Alan Wiley, after home draw with Sunderland in 2009).

6.  ‘‘You can’t applaud a referee.’’

7.  ''I do believe in fate.’’

8.  ‘‘He could start a row in an empty house’’. On Dennis Wise.

9.  ‘‘He’ll be getting a hug and a kiss from me – maybe even two!’’ (Speaking on Sam Allardyce after Bolton stalled Chelsea’s title challenge in the 2006/2007 season).

10.  ‘‘You must be joking. Do I look as if I’m a masochist ready to cut myself? How does relegation sound instead?’’ When asked if Liverpool were genuine title contenders in 2007.

11.  ‘‘Wayne is truly blessed. He doesn't just have ability; he has a fire inside him.’’

12.  ‘‘I am very excited. I think we’ve got the best young player this country has seen in the past 30 years.’’( After signing Wayne Rooney from Everton in 2004 for £29m).

13.  ‘‘In the tunnel Wenger was criticising my players, calling them cheats, so I told him to leave them alone and behave himself. To not apologise for the behaviour of the players to another manager is unthinkable. It’s a disgrace, but I don’t expect Wenger to ever apologise, he’s that type of person.’’ (On Arsene Wenger after the ’Pizzagate’ game in which United ended Arsenal’s 49-game unbeaten record in 2004).

14.  ‘‘They say he's an intelligent man, right? Speaks five languages! I've got a 15-year-old boy from the Ivory Coast who speaks five languages!’’ (On Wenger).

15.  ‘‘He's a novice - he should keep his opinions to Japanese football (on Wenger).

16.  ‘‘Do you think I would enter into a contract with that mob? Absolutely no chance. I would not sell them a virus. That is a ’No’ by the way. There is no agreement whatsoever between the clubs. ’’ (On Real Madrid’s attempts to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, December 2008. He’ll  latter sign for a world record £80m 18 months later).

17.  ‘‘The work of a team should always embrace a great player, but the great player must also work. ’’

18.  ‘‘He was blessed with great stamina, the best of all the players I’ve had here. After training, he would always be practising, practising, practising. But his life changed when he met his wife. She’s in pop and David got another image. He’s developed this ’fashion thing’ - I saw his transition to a different person.’’ (After Beckham left United for Real Madrid in 2003).

19.  ‘‘I think he was an angry man. He must have been disturbed for some reason. I think you have got to cut through the venom of it and hopefully he’ll reflect and understand what he said was absolutely ridiculous. ’’ (On the infamous rant by Rafa Benitez in 2009).

20.  ‘‘It’s City isn’t it? They are a small club, with a small mentality. All they can talk about is Manchester United, that’s all they’ve done and they can’t get away from it. ’’ (On City’s ‘welcome to Manchester poster’ after Carlos Tevez’s controversial move from United, 2009).

21.  ‘‘Sometimes you have a noisy neighbour. You cannot do anything about that. They will always be noisy. You just have to get on with your life, put your television on and turn it up a bit louder. ’’ (On neighbours Man City).

22.  ‘‘There has been a lot of expectation on Manchester City and with the spending they have done they have to win something. Sometimes you have a noisy neighbour and have to live with it.’’

23.  ‘‘Sometimes in football you have to hold your hand up and say, yeah, they're better than us. ’’

24.  ‘‘The credit to them, the better team won and there's nothing we can do about that now. ’’ (On defeat against Barca, Champions League final in 2009).

25.  ‘‘I've never played for a draw in my life.’’

26.  ‘‘Well, football is a hard game; there's no denying it. It's a game that can bring out the worst in you, at times.’’

27.  ‘‘It can be difficult to pinpoint who would make it as a manager. For instance, nobody here thought  Mark Hughes would become a manager, never in a million years, and we all thought Bryan Robson was a certainty  to be a top manager.’’ (On his former players becomes coaches).

28.  ‘‘If he was an inch taller he'd be the best center half in Britain. His father is 6 ft 2 in - I'd check the milkman. ’’ (On Gary Neville).

29.  ‘‘That lad must have been born offside. (On Filippo Izanagi).

30.  ‘‘My greatest challenge is not what's happening at the moment, my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their f*****g perch. And you can print that. ’’ (On the 2002/03 title and his old rivals).

31.  ‘‘Jose understands winning and losing are twins in a way. When you win you don't gloat and when you lose you don't go bananas. ’’ (On Mourinho).

32.  ‘‘If Chelsea drop points, the cat's out in the open. And you know what cats are like - sometimes they don't come home.’’

33.  ‘‘He was certainly full of it, calling me Boss and Big Man when we had our post-match drink after the first leg. But it would help if his greetings were accompanied by a decent glass of wine. What he gave me was paint-stripper.’’ (On Jose Mourinho).

34.  ‘‘I don't like losing but I've mellowed. I maybe have a short fuse but it goes away quicker now.’’

35.  ‘‘It was the most emphatic display of selflessness I have seen on a football field. Pounding over every blade of grass, competing if he would rather die of exhaustion than lose, he inspired all around him. I felt such an honour to be associated with such a player.’’ (On Roy Keane's inspired performance in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League against Juventus).

36.  ‘‘Myths grow all the time. If I was to listen to the number of times I've thrown teacups then we've gone through some crockery in this place. It's completely exaggerated, but I don't like people arguing back with me.’’ (On the famous hairdryer' treatment).

37.  ‘‘I used to have a saying that when a player is at his peak, he feels as though he can climb Everest in his slippers.’’ That's what he was like. (On Paul Ince).

38.  ‘‘He was towering over me and the other players were almost covering their eyes. I’m looking up and thinking ‘if he does hit me, I’m dead’’ (On a dressing room disagreement with Peter Schlemiel).

39.  ‘‘If ever there was one player, anywhere in the world, that was made for Manchester United, it was Cantona. He swaggered in, stuck his chest out, raised his head and surveyed everything as though he was asking: 'I'm Cantona. How big are you? Are you big enough for me?''

40.  ‘‘It was a freakish incident. If I tried it 100 or a million times it couldn't happen again. If I could I would have carried on playing! ’’ (On kicking a boot into Beckham's face).

41.  ‘‘It’s getting tickly now – squeaky bum time I call it." (on the 2003 title race).

42.  ‘‘I’m not saying what they do down there, but next year we’ll be sending somebody to see how it happens. I don’t understand how you get fixtures like that.’’ (On the Premier League’s fixture, in 2010).

43.  ‘‘I still have a lot of passion. I’m still happy and healthy. But I’m 66 now - maybe three years more, then I’ll finish. ’’  (On retirement, March 2007).

44.  ‘‘I won’t be doing a Bobby Robson and be a manager when I am 70. It is just knowing when to quit. Football is like a drug which is difficult to give up. ’’ (On retirement, in October 2008).

45.  ‘‘I don’t think about retirement any more. When you’ve been on the treadmill for so long, and my health is good at the moment, it’s just a matter of looking forward to being the manager of Manchester United, rather than worrying about Alex Ferguson.’’ (On retirement, October 2011).

46.  ‘‘If I have my health I can carry on. There will be a point when I do quit but I have absolutely no idea when that is.’’

47.  ‘‘The crowd were dead. It was like a funeral out there. ’’ (On the Old Trafford fans).

48.  ‘‘It’s not so much passing Liverpool. It’s more important that United are the best team in the country.(Speaking after United’s 19th league title).

49.  ‘‘Look at me – it’s taken 10 years off me today. It’s these tablets, they’re great!’’ After United won their 20th League title. (His last).

50.  ‘‘Pardew has come out and criticized me. He is the worst at haranguing referees. He shoves them and makes a joke of it. How he can criticize me is unbelievable. He forgets the help I gave him, by the way. The press have had a field day. The only person they have not spoken to is Barack Obama because he is busy. It is unfortunate but I am the manager of the most famous club in the world. Not Newcastle, a wee club in the North-East. I was demonstrative. I am always demonstrative. Everyone knows that. I am an emotional guy but I was not abusive.’’

Which is the most touching to you?

Manchester United 0 - 0 Chelsea: Van Gaal will not resign

Manchester United staged an improved performance against Chelsea at Old Trafford, but the goalless stalemate has done little to secure the future of Van Gaal.

The United manager seems to have lost the support of the fans as there were banners calling for José Mourinho to be hired as manager.

Van Gaal after the boxing day defeat by Stoke said he may resign before the club fires him.

But after seeing the performance of his team against Chelsea, he seem to have changed his mind.

Van Gaal: "When the players can give such a performance, there is no reason for me to resign. Maybe media want that but I won't do that."

“I have a contract, so it’s not a question of staying, it’s a question of fulfilling my contract.”

Manchester United 0 - 0 Chelsea: Post match Van Gaal and players reactions

Manchester United end their four match losing streak with a boring barren goalless draw at Old Trafford.

It was a much more improved performance from United, but they didn't do enough to break down a dogged Chelsea defence and were also lucky not to have conceded from the few half chances Chelsea created.

It remains to be seen if manager Van Gaal will be given more time, or he would be shown the exit.

United goalkeeper  De Gea thinks United were the better side.

De Gea: "Both teams had chances but I think we played better then them. We kept the ball, we tried to score goals."

Captain Wayne Rooney believes the team put up an good performance and they still have the backing of the fans.

Wayne Rooney: "We put up a great fight, dominated the game and should have won. But that's football and it's the way it's going for us.

"The fans were excellent and you can see what that means to the players. It's a tough time but I'm sure the wins will come."

Manager Van Gaal believes he has the support of his players, though he can't say same about the board.  He may not be considering resigning and believes some fans are still behind him.

'I think it was a very good
performance but you have to score.

"My future is not an interesting subject. I cannot have an influence on it. You see the players are fighting for me.

"When the players can give such a performance, there is no reason for me to resign.

"Even after today's result the fans are applauding, so I cannot say I am concerned much.

"I know the results are not good enough. That is the truth. But it can be different in one month."

Chelsea boss defends Depay: He's got talent and needs time

Chelsea manager Guss Hiddink has come to the rescue and defence of flopping United star Memphis Depay.

Rumours of his extravagant social life has hit the news than news from his boots on the pitch.

But his former boss at national team says he has all it takes to succeed and he need more time and cover.

"He has this talent but he's also now having a confrontation with the demands of the Premier League, which are much higher in intensity of the game during 90 minutes.

"That's a period all players, not just him, have to overcome, and I think they need time for that.

Those guys, they need a bit the cover of experienced players."

Arsenal legend Henry reveals why United must get Guardiola

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry  has given Manchester United one or two reasons why they must strive to hire outgoing Bayern boss Pep Guardiola.

The French legend played under the Spanish tactician at Barcelona and believes Guardiola has a plan to dominate the league while he puts a lasting legacy in his club that will continue long after he's gone.

Henry wrote in his column in The Sun:

"If I was chairman of any club in the world looking to change its manager, Guardiola would be my No1 pick. No contest.

"For me, he is already one of the greatest coaches of all time. His teams don’t just win the league, they totally dominate it.

"He arrives with a plan, takes complete control of a club and puts a lasting legacy in place that survives long after he’s moved on to his next challenge.

Henry believes Guardiola's philosophy of 3 P's is one of what makes him special.

He wrote:

"Here is what makes him so special.

PHILOSOPHY

PEP’S philosophy is based around the three Ps — passing the ball (play), keeping the ball (possession) and staying in your zone (position).

"Guardiola studies the weaknesses of every opponent and gives his players a precise way of bringing the ball out. He has a different set-piece routine for every game.

"So you know exactly how a game is going to unfold before it kicks off."

The Spanish tactician will be leaving Bayern at the end of the season. His destination is not yet known. The two Manchester clubs and Chelsea are thought to be highly interested in the former Barcelona coach.

Unconfirmed report says City are close to appointing him as manager.

The B.T sports pundit has always been critical of the team's style of play under Van Gaal.

"Leaving out your talisman, your captain in the most difficult situation; someone with the experience, although his performances have not been the greatest, I just felt it went against him and he (Van Gaal) got it wrong
again this afternoon,"

"I just think the timing was wrong. I think there have been so many opportunities probably to leave Wazza out and I just felt that in his most difficult spell as the manager of Manchester United, to leave your captain out, was a big call."

The former United front man said the team lacked confidence.

Stoke 2 - 0 Manchester United: Three things we learnt

Manchester United slumped to another defeat at the Britannia, their fourth in a roll, and one that left them without a win in their last seven games.

Prior to the match, manager Van Gaal declared the match a must win for United, but on the boxing day, United refused to throw enough punches.

He had earlier worked out if his pre-match press conference, demanding an apology from the media, but after the team's shambolic performance against the potters, the United board will have to evaluate his position as United manager.

Here are three talking points from the game.

1. Unpardonable selection errors from the manager:

Van Gaal's starting eleven raised as much questions as the performance of his players. He once again showed that he may not have an indepth  understanding of his team.

Benching your underperforming captain may be pardonable, but two unpardonable errors are the omission of Schneiderlin from the starting XI and playing Fellaini as your number 10, while Herrera played as a defensive midfielder.

Schneiderlin is no doubt one the the best defensive midfielders in the league, benching him in a physical must win game proved costly. The United back four lacked effective cover, a hustler and someone who can break play.

2. Players lacking confidence or needing a change:

Three defeats in a roll, no victory in their last six, immense criticism of their manager, uncertainty about the manager's future plus his seemingly non effective philosophy is enough to make the players emotionally down.

Psychologically those players need a break or a change. The performance of  Mata, Depay, Herrera, Blind and co. shows that something needs to change in the United set up. Rooney and Perreria came on as substitutes,  the later was booked while Rooney looked angry and could also have been booked.

The ineffective playing methods, and many other negatives surrounding the team needs a change in methods or manager. The players don't look free or happy.

3. The fans deserve  apologies:

When Van Gaal walked out of his press conference on Wednesday, fans must have felt a change in performance and results was inevitable.

The gaffer had to get it right. You don't walk out of your press conference and next, your team produce a performance like that.

It is now crystal clear who deserve an apology.

THE FANS.

Stoke boss: United not strong without Rooney

Manchester United slumped to their fourth straight defeat in a roll at the Britannia, and Stoke manager Mark Hughes thinks United  were weeker without captain Wayne Rooney in the starting eleven.

Rooney's omission came as a surprise to some, but manager Van Gaal said benching the England's all time highest goal scorer was tactical.

United were 2 - 0 down by the end of the first half, as the team lacked steel, leadership in the first half. He was brought on at half time and United looked a little adventurous, but could put the ball behind the Stoke goalkeeper.

Former United player Hughes, believes Stoke benefitted from Rooney's absence.

"I'm sure there were reasons why Wayne didn't start the game.

"It's a tough period over Christmas, we've got a tough fixture against Everton, United have got Chelsea so you've got to work with your resources.

"Maybe that's the reason he didn't start the game. From our point of view, a team without Wayne Rooney is a team that maybe isn't quite as strong.

"But maybe he wasn't fit enough to start."

Van Gaal may sack himself as United manager

Manchester United manager Van Gaal has hinted that he may quit before the club sacks him.

The Dutchman has been in charge of the club for one of the worst footballing era at the club.

The boxing day defeat by Stoke was United's fourth in a roll and  the club has only raked in two points from a possible 15,  something that last happened at the club in1961.

Speaking to the media after the defeat, the Dutchman believes he is not a failure. He said:

"You can say I have failed - but I don't think it's like that."

The manager has said the club doesn't have to fire him, that he can do it himself.

"The club doesn't have to fire or sack me - sometimes I do it by myself, but I am the one who wants to speak first with theboard of Manchester United and my members of staff and my players, not with you."

The Dutchman believes his team didn't dare enough in the game:

The Dutchman also claimed he is not hurt, with the media speculations about himself but the media are spreading false rumors about happenings at Old Trafford.

“My message was that the media are saying and writing things that are not happening inside Manchester United. That was my message and not that I am hurt, because I am used to that.”

Sky sports pundit predicts boxing day doom for United: To lose again

Sky sport's Paul Merson has predicted a Stoke City victory against Manchester United ahead of the boxing day match between both teams.

The former Arsenal winger believes that United's recent defeats to newly promoted Bournemouth and Norwich means the best they can get at the Britannia is a draw.

Speaking ahead of the tie, he said:

"I can't remember a United run of form this bad in recent memory and it's not just that, it's who they're losing to.

"You can understand if you're (Manchester United) losing against Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City. But, and no disrespect to either team, they are losing to Bournemouth and Norwich now.

"The best United can hope for is 1-1, and that could be a struggle.

"I don't like going against Stoke at home, they tend to keep a lot of clean sheets, and I'm going with a win for the Potters again."

A draw or United defeat spells more pressure for under fire Van Gaal and a possible sack.

Mark Hughes questions the mentality of some United players

Ahead of their boxing day clash  with United, former United player now Stoke City manager has questioned the mentality of some United players in this phase of the club he described as a 'transition' period.

United have lot three games in a roll, and are without a victory in their last six.  They were also knocked out the Champions League, and manager Van Gaal future at the club is in doubt.

Speaking ahead of the tie, the Stoke manager said:

"I don't know what it's like there now. I've not been in that tunnel with them.

Speaking on the expectations of playing for a team like United, he said:

"But there was always an expectation that we were going to win. We didn't hope to win. We expected to win, no matter who we went up against."

But he doubt if all the current United players have got that mindset:

"I don't know if that's their mentality at the moment. I suspect most of them have that. But if you're new to the club and you're trying to find your feet, and there's a period of transition for you as a player, and there's a new group at a big club, then maybe some of them haven't quite got it.

"There have been many players who signed for Manchester United, and just couldn’t deal with the expectation."

A win at Stoke is a must for United to ease the pressure on Van Gaal. Manchester United have won 18 of their last 19 fixtures played on Boxing Day and will be hoping they can extend their boxing day winning streak.

Van Gaal not prepared for the media spotlight at Old Trafford: Ray Wilkins

The United manager was reported to have been sacked, when he hasn't, and has also faced intense criticism from the fans, ex-players and the media.

His United side are winless in their last six, and have suffered three straight defeats. His style of play has also come under the microscope as United seem to have lost their attacking swag.

“The media in this country are very intense, I don't think Van Gaal was quite prepared for what has been said and written about him over the last couple of weeks.

“You have to be extremely mentally tough to go into a place like Old Trafford. You are expected to win and expected to play in a certain style and when that's not happening the supporters will let you know.

Van Gaal doesn't understand English football: Former United star

Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis has questioned Van Gaal's style and understanding of the game in England.

"I am disappointed with the way United are playing." He said.

"I just don't think that Van Gaal understands English football."

The Ukrainian also said United lack leaders.

"A team needs to have leaders, like Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel, who can give the right things at the necessary moment and can show their leadership qualities.

Arsenal legend questions Martial's usage

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Anthony Martial should play more as a central striker, that Martial would be his number 9, if he was the coach.

The young Frenchman was a surprise signing for United and was an instant hit in his first few games, scoring five goals and assisting three goals in his first nine games. But the striker experienced a drought of goals which coincided with Van Gaal moving the player from the centre to the wing.

His goal against Norwich was his first in nine games and Henry believes Martial should be playing more centrally.

Speaking in Sky sport's Monday night football, Henry said:

"I actually do not know what he is doing there" [On the wings].

"He should be there [in the box] having a one versus one, scoring and celebrating."

Martial has drawn comparison with the Arsenal hero and Henry said he believes Martial was a solution to one of United's biggest problems.

"They wanted a guy who scored goals. They wanted a guy to run in behind fast. He came in and did that. Suddenly now he finds himself out there, almost not touching the ball."

"I think if I had a player like that, he would be my No 9 and the rest are around him."

Using players off their natural and most effective position is one the major reasons why fans are upset with Van Gaal. The Dutchman is under intense pressure and may be lucky to survive being the United coach till new year.

Three reasons Mourinho is not the right man for United

Van Gaal must be facing one of his most difficult period as a coach. The Dutchman has not been sacked as United coach, but the media and fans have almost declared his position vacant.

His playing methods and results have been one  the worse United fans have witnessed in a while.

No victory in their last six matches, three consecutive defeats, two of those to newly promoted teams in the Premier League says it all.

A number of high profile names have been linked to United. But the two most prominent are Pep Guardiola and José Mourinho.

Guardiola's future is not crystal clear for now, as though it's been confirmed he would be leaving Bayern, his destination still remains unknown to the media, though reports favor a move to Manchester City.

Mourinho on his part was sacked as Chelsea manager some days ago, following Chelsea's poor start to the season. He looks the most likely to take over from Van Gaal in case of a sack or walk away.

Is José the best man for the United job?

Redlyunited looks at three reasons he might not be the best for the United job.

1. HIS EGO IS SIMILAR TO THAT VAN GAAL:

One of Van Gaal's main Achilles hill at Old Trafford is his ego. Fans believe the Dutchman is stubborn and cocky.

Of course every successful football manager needs an element of that, but if fans believe Van Gaal is arrogant, they better not wait to see those traits in Mourinho.

The Portuguese is not only attention seeking, seemingly lousy, but may land United into a lot of fines and troubles. Imagine Mourinho been criticized by former United players such as Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and a host of other Old Trafford legends. Can he tolerate such in good fate? Doubt that. Both men worked together at Barcelona and have similar personality.

2. HIS STYLE OF PLAY:

José is a manager that gets the job done anyhow, One of his greatest footballing strategy is 'packing the bus' and winning in an ugly manner, which United fans are not used to, and use to criticise him about as an opponent. Now as their coach, can they tolerate that?

One of the main point of concern for Van Gaal has been his style of football, United fans care about the brand of football their team is playing as much as the results, so with José, they may have to choose one. His typical teams lacks so much flair, dribbles and skills that have been embedded in the United culture by Sir Alex.

3. HE IS NOT A LONG TERM COACH:

When Mourinho returned to Chelsea for his second term, he said he was more matured, and a lot of fans and pundits felt Chelsea may have hired their own Sir Alex. One who would manage the club for a long time, build a solid structure and legacy.

But that was a dream that wouldn't come to pass. Eighteen months into his return, the 'matured one' was sacked.

This with his past records shows that the Portuguese  is not too good at building long lasting footballing structure and legacy. This may be what will forever distinguish him from Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.

Internal problems seem to have a way of getting him out of jobs. His problem with Chelsea doctor Eva, looked like the beginning of his turmoil at Chelsea, at Real Madrid too, there were a lot of in-team problems between Iker Casillas, Ronaldo and others.

And with a team like United, there would always be  similar issues, if a matured Mourinho couldn't handle things right at Chelsea, United will need an much more matured Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Do you think Mourinho is the right man United?

Manchester United youngster reveals his best positions

It's been a good season for the academy products at United as injury and other factors have brought a good number of them into the first team.

One of the beneficiary of Van Gaal's faith in the academy is  defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. The young defender has had his first team debut for United this season, and has gone on to start a game for the team.

Van Gaal has played the youngster in the left back position, but the defender believes he can operate well both at left and centre back.
Speaking to the club's website, he said:  "I can operate on the right but I'm mainly used at centre-back or on the left-hand side."

"I enjoy either of the two positions as I've been rotated through them both. So I feel I've got a good understanding of both roles and it doesn't really bother me where I play."

The player has put in decent and composed performances for the team and fans will be hoping he metamorphose into a solid defender for the team in the nearest future.

Manchester United to beef up Van Gaal's security ahead of Chelsea clash

Manchester United will increase the security around Van Gaal if he still remains United manager for the tie against Chelsea reports the Sun.

The United manager was booed as he walked into the tunnel after the team 1-2 loss to Norwich over the weekend, with extra  minders drafted to the dugout area in fear and and to control any physical assault.

There were earlier reports that some fans wanted to fly a Van Gaal out toy aircraft over Old Trafford for the match, but that didn't happen.

Giggs on the touchline was planned: Van Gaal

One of the minor criticism Van Gaal has faced from the fans, is that he never stands up to ginger or motivate his players during games, as most managers do on the touchline.

The Dutchman will rather sit down and take notes during games.

This hasn't gone well with some section of the fans, and with assistant manager Ryan Giggs standing up to give instructions to the players during the last few games,  the criticism had risen.

But the Dutch tactician has said Giggs was given the permission to that. He was quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying :

“In the last match he (Giggs) had a lot of time on the touchline. He has to give the advice to the players. He can do that because we speak about that."

“You are at the sideline when it is not going well. And that’s the reason.”

Do you think United should appoint Giggs as its next manager?

Sir Alex Ferguson could determine Van Gaal's fate

The former United manager according to report would have a big say in what becomes of the future of Van Gaal at Old Trafford.

The Scott, still widely respected by the owners, among the fans and board, have  been meeting with vice-chairman Ed Woodward and former chief executive David Gill over Van Gaal's future.

Van Gaal's future has been under intense scrutiny at United following a string of poor performance and results from his team, but the United owners seem to gave left the final decision about his future to  vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the board. But the chairman is relying much on the verdict of Sir Alex on the matter.

The United board seem to be in a race against time, as it is believed that José Mourinho may not last long in the job market before securing another job.

Van Gaal still have the slight backing of Sir Alex, who doesn't want United to turn into a sacking club, but is also a big friend and fan of Mourinho.

Do you think United should replace Van Gaal with Mourinho?
