The Manchester United goalkeeper is hoping United will win the FA Cup on Saturday. And that will help launch the club into another successful era.
De Gea started the season with uncertainty on his United career, with his transfer saga to Madrid, that has been settled, ending with the 24 year old signing a new deal at Old Trafford.
Despite the seemingly rough start, the Spanish international says this season has been his best.
"It's been the best season of my career," De Gea said via ESPN.
"I'm in great shape, physically and mentally. I'm very focused.
"If we win the FA Cup, it will be a good season. We've had a couple of difficult seasons, so we are really determined to win the cup. And winning it could provide us with that extra belief and motivation to hopefully go on and achieve great things."
The United player of the year also discussed the toughness of the Premier League, and how strange a season it has been for United.
"In the Premier League, all teams can slip up against all kinds of opposition.
"It's a very tough league, but it's true we have lost games that we shouldn't have, against teams that on paper we should have been beating.
"But then we have won plenty of the very difficult games, too, and in that sense it has been a strange season."
With a mindset like this, it looks like De Gea would be staying at United for the foreseeable future.
Real Madrid have once again been linked with him, and keeping De Gea will be one tough assignment for the United board this summer.
