Official: Michael Carrick agrees new United deal

The Manchester United midfielder has agreed a one year deal with the club.

Prior to today's official announcement, reliable sources within the club has said a deal was in the pipeline, while Australian side Perth Glory also confirmed that the player wouldn't be available for a transfer as he had agreed a new deal at Old Trafford, though the club and the player refused to release an official announcement.

There was an official statement from the club, regarding the deal.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that Michael Carrick has agreed terms to extend his contract for a further year to June 2017."

The midfielder is one of the most experienced players in the current squad, and gave this response to agreeing the new deal.

"This great club has been a part of my life for the past 10 years, so I am delighted that this incredible journey is continuing. It’s great to have the opportunity to work under José Mourinho, who has achieved so much during his managerial career. I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support. Winning the FA Cup was a special moment and, hopefully, we can go on to win more trophies in the future."

José Mourinho has oversaw the transfer of defender Eric Bailly, who was his first United signing.

He has also endorsed new deals for Rashford, Borthwick-Jackson and most recently Carrick. He is looking forward to having an intelligent and experience player like Carrick around.

"Michael is a very intelligent midfielder and a great reader of the game. I am pleased that he will be extending his contract.

"Michael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable
to me. I am really looking forward to working with him."
